Who is Team Maureen
Team Maureen was founded as a promise to a sister, daughter, wife and mother to keep her spirit alive. Maureen E. Russo passed away from relapsed cervical cancer at the age of 37. To honor that promise and keep Maureen’s competitive spirit alive, Maureen’s family and friends founded Team Maureen in 2007 as a Pan Mass Challenge cycling team to raise funds for cancer research at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) in Boston, MA.
Currently, the funds we have raised are supporting state of the art research for cervical cancer, but by expanding to a non-profit, we will continue to raise funds to support our organization and missions to a much larger scale.
Together, Team Maureen and Dana Farber Cancer Institute’s Community Benefits Program are increasing awareness through education and access to early detection and screening opportunities. To this end, we work with town, city, and state health departments, community partners, Boston and Cape Cod-based coalitions to assess and monitor the needs of local residents with respect to cancer control.
